MOLUSCE 4.0
Twelve years ago NextGIS releazed MOLUSCE plugin for QGIS, and it has become a real phenomemon. Hunderds of well-cited scientific papers, dozens of YouTube videos... We have always looked at it with surprise, because from our side there were no any popularization, or real support, this technology lived by itself.
The aim of MOLUSCE is to simulate future land use / land cover changes on territory based on observed history of such changes and ML techniques. Sounds exotic, isn't it? So we thought. And became even more surprised looking at 100.000+ downloads. MOLUSCE worked only with old versions of QGIS, so people had been patiently installing old versions...
In 2024 we found a resources to restore MOLUSCE and return control and support over it. Thanks to developers Dmitry Kolesov, Ivan Barsukov and Valery Remeshevsky, MOLUSCE is now available for QGIS 3, and significantly improved.
I took on the role of product management and community relations. I made a detailed video about MOLUSCE: how to prepare the data, run the processing and interprete results.
It was also very nice to take part in QGIS Open Day with MOLUSCE Demo.
Current plans are to implement a big new feature — support for separate version of environmental factors for simulation period.
