Armenia, May 2025

My first visit to Armenia! We’re taking part in the project Ecosystem Accounting in Armenia: Setting the Scene, and last week was filled with meetings and conferences related to it. My role in the project focuses on everything connected to geographic modeling, mapping, and GIS infrastructure.
I gave two talks:
- Technical, data, and software requirements for starting ecosystem accounting: Experience from our project — presented at the project conference.
- Ecosystem accounting in Armenia — setting the scene — presented at UN Biodiversity Day at the UN headquarters in Armenia.
Check out project website and Web GIS.
Beyond work, we visited many incredible places across the country and had the chance to experience the beauty of the ecosystems we’re studying. I will definitely come back with my family to explore more!

Nice places to revisit in Yerevan:
Yerevan Tavern (national cousine)
Fourchette Buffet (cheap and tasty food for every day)
Tea house (good breakfasts and drinks)
Cinnabon (not only bakery, but a lot of nice food and drinks)
State museum of nature of Armenia (interesting collection of animals and maps. Descriptions mostly in Armenian unfortunately)
History museum of Armenia (the main museum. Worth visiting)
